HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for Octagon's Art Festival RESOLUTION NO. 17-514 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR FOR THE OCTAGON'S ART FESTIVAL FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, The Octagon Center for the Arts plans to host the 47t' Annual Art Festival in the Ames Main Street Cultural District(MSCD) on Sunday, September 24, 2017; and, WHEREAS, the event is scheduled to begin at 10.00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, booths selling art works, crafts, and food items will be in operation that day; in addition, there will be entertainment on the sidewalks in Tom Evans Plaza and in Cynthia Duff Plaza; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested the following street closures from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.: Main Street east of Clark Avenue to just west of Duff Avenue; Douglas Avenue from 5t' Street to Main Street; Kellogg Avenue from 5th Street to Main Street; and, Burnett Avenue south of the alley to Main Street; and, WHEREAS, the Public Works Department staff will provide the necessary barricades for the street closures; and, WHEREAS, notification signs will be placed on parking meters on Saturday evening after 6:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, Octagon staff has contacted affected businesses door-to-door, and signatures confirming the notification have been obtained from nearly all affected businesses; and, WHEREAS, there will be more than one hundred artists on hand with unique, hand-crafted artwork for sale, live entertainment, and local food vendors; and, WHEREAS, the Main Street Cultural District has expressed its full support of the event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of the aforementioned streets for The Octagon Center for the Arts' Art Festival on September 24, 2017, is hereby approved.
