RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING SPACES AND
WAIVER OF FEES FOR DOG DOCK JUMPING COMPETITION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, Model Farm and Ames Pet Resort are proposing to host a Dog Dock Jumping
Competition on July 3-4, 2017; the event involves setting up a 40' dock leading to a 20' x 40' above-
ground pool of water; and,
WHEREAS, dogs will run down the dock and jump as far as possible into the pool, and
bleachers will be set up along one side of the dock and pool for spectators to watch, and,
WHEREAS, the event is proposed to take place on Burnett Avenue between 5th and 6tn
Streets; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested the closure of 13 metered
spaces along Burnett Avenue between 5t' Street and 6th Street; and,
WHEREAS, it is further requested that the parking meter fees for July 3 waived; and,
WHEREAS, there will be no parking meter revenue lost on July 4 since it is a holiday; and,
WHEREAS, the event has been approved by the board of the Main Street Cultural District,
which has provided a letter of support.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the request to close 13 metered parking spaces Burnett Avenue between 5th Street and 6th Street
and waive the parking meter fees for the Dog Dock Jumping Competition on July 3-4, 2017, is
hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 27th day of June, 2017.
