HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of metered spaces for MSCD's Firefly Country Night Event RESOLUTION NO. 17-315 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING SPACES FOR SEPTEMBER 8, 2017, FIREFLY COUNTRY NIGHT EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, at the March 7, 2017, meeting, the City Council approved requests from London Underground to host Firefly Country Nights on July 14 and September 8 on Main Street in Ames; and, WHEREAS, following the approval of these events, the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD), which had organized the Firefly Country Nights in prior years, received feedback from affected property owners regarding the events; and, WHEREAS, while some feedback was positive, a significant amount of negative feedback was received; and, WHEREAS, therefore, the MSCD has proposed the following key changes to these events: the MSCD will assume responsibility for both Firefly Country Night events from London Underground; and, the September 8 Country Night will be held in the 400 block of Douglas Avenue from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, Resolution No. 17-120 which approved the closure of 45 metered parking spaces within the closed area (Main Street between Douglas Avenue and Kellogg Avenue) granted to the London Underground for the September 8 event, has now been rescinded; and, WHEREAS, the MSCD is now requesting the closure of 12 metered parking spaces within the closed area(Douglas Avenue between Main Street and 5t" Street) for the Firefly event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of 12 metered parking spaces within the aforementioned closed area for the September 8, 2017, Firefly Country Night is hereby approved.
