HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of parking meter spaces for MSCD's July 14 Firefly Country Night Event RESOLUTION NO. 17-310 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING SPACES FOR JULY 14, 2017, FIREFLY COUNTRY NIGHT EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, at the March 7, 2017, meeting, the City Council approved requests from London Underground to host Firefly Country Nights on July 14 and September 8 on Main Street in Ames; and, WHEREAS, following the approval of these events, the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD), which had organized the Firefly Country Nights in prior years, received feedback from affected property owners regarding the events; and, WHEREAS, while some feedback was positive, a significant amount of negative feedback was received; and, WHEREAS, therefore, the MSCD has proposed the following key changes to these events: the MSCD will assume responsibility for both Firefly Country Night events from London Underground; and, the July 14 Country Night will be moved to Bandshell Park, and will be under the rules adopted by the Parks and Recreation Comnrission; and, WHEREAS, with the new location, the MSCD requests that it retain the ability to use the original Main Street location for the July 14 event, but only if turf conditions make it impossible to use Bandshell Park; and, WHEREAS, Resolution No. 17-107 which approved the closure of 45 metered parking spaces (on Main Street between Kellogg Avenue and Douglas Avenue) granted to the London Underground for the July 14 has been rescinded; and, WHEREAS, therefore, the MSCD requests the closure the 45 metered parking spaces (on Main Street between Kellogg Avenue and Douglas Avenue) for the July 14 Firefly Country Night event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of 45 metered parking spaces in the aforementioned closed area for the Main Street Cultural District's Firefly Country Night to be held on July 14, 2017, is hereby approved.
