RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF FEES FOR PARKING METERS AND
BLANKET VENDING LICENSE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) is hosting its annual Summer
Sidewalk Sales from July 27 through July 29, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, at this event, Downtown businesses display merchandise on the sidewalks for
pedestrians to browse; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers are requesting the suspension of parking
regulations and enforcement for the entire Central Business District (CBD) from 8.00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29; and,
WHEREAS, because the Main Street Fanner's Market will take place Saturday morning,
parking will already be closed for a large portion of the Downtown area from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
that day, and,
WHEREAS, organizers are requesting a waiver of parking meter fees for the Sidewalk Sales,
which will amount to lost revenue to the Parking Fund in the amount of$1,007.10; and,
WHEREAS, organizers are further requesting a blanket Vending License for the CBD and
waiver of the $50 permit fee; and,
WHEREAS, Sidewalk Sales are successful events held twice each year in the MSCD, and
since these events bring shoppers to the Downtown, these requests further the City Council's goal
to strengthen Downtown Ames.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that waiver of the Parking meter fees and the fee for a blanket Vending License for the Main Street
Cultural District's Summer Sidewalk Sales on July 27 - 29, 2017, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23'day of May, 2017.
