RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
"MILE ON MAIN STREET" ROAD RACE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Iowa State Running Club plans to hold its second "Mile on Main Street"
run on Saturday, September 16, 2017, and the race will begin at 9:00 a.m.; and,
WHEREAS, race organizers have coordinated this event with the Downtown Farmer's
Market organizers, and it is anticipated that about 130 runners will participate; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers are requesting the following street closures:
Burnett Avenue from Main Street to 1 It' Street; Clark Avenue from 81h Street to 1 lth Street; and, 91h
Street, loth Street, and llth Street from Clark Avenue from Clark Avenue to Burnett Avenue from
8.45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; and,
WHEREAS, streets will re-open as runners clear the race route; and,
WHEREAS, the remainder of the race area has been approved for closure for the Farmer's
Market, and the race's start and finish area will be coordinated with the Farmer's Market; and,
WHEREAS, race organizers will go door-to-door in the affected areas with race information,
and will follow up again the week before the event; and,
WHEREAS, the organizers have received a letter of support from the Main Street Cultural
District; and,
WHEREAS, this event was successfully held last year, and because it involves a smaller
group of runners and vehicles do not need to be moved out of the race area, there will be less
disruption to residents in this area compared to a larger race.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arries, Iowa,
that the aforementioned street closures for the "Mile on Main Street" road race on Saturday,
September 16, 2017, are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23' day of May, 2017.
