RESOLUTION APPROVING USAGE OF ELECTRICITY FOR THE MAIN STREET
CULTURAL DISTRICT'S SNOW MAGIC ACTIVITIES,AND WAIVING
ELECTRICITY COSTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) plans to host its Snow Magic
Celebration November 10 through December 24, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, this event will kick off on November 10 with the tree-lighting ceremony, open
houses, and horse and carriage rides; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, the MSCD is requesting to install the holiday snowflake
lights on November 13 and the use of electricity for these lights along Main Street; and,
WHEREAS, the MSCD is further requesting that the Council waive the electricity costs from
November 13, 2017, through January 1, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, this will result in approximately a$10 loss to the Electric Fund; and,
WHEREAS, Snow Magic provides an opportunity to draw residents and visitors to the
Downtown, and it supports local businesses during the holiday shopping season.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the usage of electricity for Holiday activities and snow flake lighting along Main Street for the
Main Street Cultural District's Snow Magic activities from November 13, 2017, through January 1,
2018, is hereby approved, and waiver of the electricity costs is hereby further approved.
ADOPTED THIS 251h day of April, 2017.
