HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for ISU Homecoming Parade RESOLUTION NO. 17-168 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR ISU HOMECOMING PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, from October 22 - 28, 2017, the Homecoming Central Committee at Iowa State University (ISU) is planning to host its annual Homecoming activities, which includes the hosting of a Downtown Homecoming Parade on October 22 as a kick-off to the activities; and, WHEREAS, the Homecoming Parade will take place at 2:00 p.m. on that date, and to ensure the parade is manageable, the number of entries will be capped at between 70 and 80; and, WHEREAS, entries will be staged in City Hall Lot M, on Pearle Avenue, and on Main Street west of Clark Avenue; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, closure of the following streets is requested from Noon until 4:00 p.m. on October 22: Pearle Avenue; Fifth Street from Grand Avenue to Douglas Avenue; Main Street/Northwestem Avenue from Fifth Street to Douglas Avenue; and, Clark Avenue, Burnett Avenue, Kellogg Avenue, and Douglas Avenue from Main Street to Fifth Street; and, WHEREAS, CyRide will detour two transit routes from the parade area, and the Police Department will provide a vehicle; and, WHEREAS, the Main Street Cultural District has provided a letter in support of the parade; and, WHEREAS, the first Downtown Homecoming Parade last year was executed successfully, and City staff feels the proposed parade this fall appears to be manageable. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned street closures on October 22, 2017, for the ISU Homecoming Parade are hereby approved.
