RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR DESIGN
OF GRAND AVENUE EXTENSION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this project is the extension of South Grand Avenue from Squaw Creek Drive
to South 16th Street; and,
WHEREAS, included is a segment of South 5th Street (South Grand Avenue to South Duff
Avenue) as well as intersection improvements to the South Duff Avenue (U.S. Highway 69)/South
16th Street and South Grand Avenue/South 16t1i Street; and,
WHEREAS, extending South Grand Avenue to South 16th Street will divert traffic from the
U.S. Highway 69 corridor (Grand Avenue to Lincoln Way to South Duff Avenue) to the new
extension; and,
WHEREAS, it will help alleviate existing vehicular congestion, reduce accidents, and
improve accessibility to area businesses along a portion of Lincoln Way and South Duff Avenue; in
addition, through-traffic on the proposed South Grand Avenue extension will also encounter less
traffic congestion; and,
WHEREAS, in preparing to extend Grand Avenue, a Request for Proposals was issued for
design services, and proposals were received from five engineering firms and were evaluated; and,
WHEREAS, Shive Hattery/WHKS & Co. scored the highest and has extensive experience
in roadway and bridge/structure design; and,
WHEREAS, the Grand Avenue Extension project includes: land acquisition, engineering
design, construction, and construction administration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the engineering services agreement for the Grand Avenue Extension Design with Shive Hattery
of West Des Moines, Iowa, in an amount not to exceed$1,045,000.
