RESOLUTION APPROVING REQUEST TO TRANSFER REMAINING
2016/17 ASSET FUNDS FOR HOME-DELIVERED MEALS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, at the November 15, 2016, City Council meeting, the Council referred to staff a
request fromHeartland Senior Services(HSS)to transfer funds fromMaryGreeleyHome Health Services'
(MGMC)FY 2016/17 ASSET allocation to HSS for the Home-Delivered Meals program; and,
WHEREAS,BothMGMC and HSS have provided home-delivered meals forthe Ames and Story
County area for several years; and,
WHEREAS, the City has faded the MGMC Home-Delivered Meals program, but ASSET
funding for HSS's Home-Delivered Meals program has primarily come from Story County and United
Way; and,
WHEREAS,earlierthis year,MGMC and HSS reached anarrangementwherebyHSS wouldtake
over the coordination ofHome-Delivered Meals; HSS would receive the ASSET funds for the program,
and would contract with MGMC to provide the meals; and,
WHEREAS,MGMC has the facilities and expertise to be able to prepare the meals in accordance
with the required standards;HS S has experience in coordinating the individuals who deliver the meals;and,
WHEREAS, HSS has indicated that this combined approach will allow room for the program to
grow,willbe more efficient,and allows HSS's Outreachprogramto conduct daily assessments on the well-
being of the individuals who receive the meals; and,
WHEREAS, this transfer of funds will affect services provided from January 1 through June 30,
and beyond the current fiscal year,MGMC's and HSS's FY 2017/18 ASSET budgets reflect the shift of
funds to HSS to provide for the service; and,
WHEREAS, both agencies are asking for the amounts allocated in the current FY 2016/17
allocations to be transitioned from MGMC to HSS, and of the $13,500 in City funds contracted to
MGMC for FY 2016/17, $6,287.75 remains unclaimed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames, Iowa, that
authorization for staff to transfer the remaining balance in MGMC Home Health Services' FY 2016/17
Home-Delivered Meals ASSET funds to Heartland Senior Services is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 1 Oth day of January, 2017.
