RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT FOR UNIT NO. 7 BOILER MODELING
FOR THE ELECTRIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Unit No. 7 boiler was retrofitted to burn refuse-desired fuel (RDF), but in
relative terms, has been operating relatively inefficiently since converting to burn RDF; and,
WHEREAS, modeling is now proposed as part of the Power Plant Unit No. 7 boiler tube
repair project, and this project will model the Unit 7 boiler to provide information on improving the
combustion process within the boiler; and,
WHEREAS, this improvement is necessary for better processing and handling of RDF ash
within the boiler and its associated ash handling equipment; additionally, better combustion of the
RDF will extend boiler tube life; and,
WHEREAS, the modeling and subsequent desig Aube replacement project will return the
boiler to a"like-new"status for future plant reliability; and,
WHEREAS, bid documents were issued to 14 companies, and on November 17, 2016, three
bids were received; and,
WHEREAS, staff reviewed the bids and concluded that the apparent low bid submitted by
Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc., of Kirkland, Washington, in the amount of
$69,940 is acceptable; and,
WHEREAS, the CIP project for Boiler Tube Repair was approved with funding to cover the
project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the award of contract to Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc., of Kirkland,
Washington, in the amount of $69,940 for the Unit No. 7 Boiler Modeling Project is hereby
approved.
