Ames City Council
Re: Spring Valley 8th Addition
The developer's proposed sidewalk plan for the 8th addition is not
satisfactory to the homeowners in Spring Valley for several reasons.
Our first and main concern is providing a sidewalk for our
neighborhood children to walk to school. There is already a sidewalk
on the west side of the entryway (Idaho Ave.) for children coming
from the west side of Spring Valley. However, children coming from
the back of the development will not use the proposed. east sidewalk, .
but will be cutting through Idaho Court and between lots 4 and 5.
Our proposal is to eliminate the east entryway sidewalk and. put in a
sidewalk around Idaho Court with a paved pathway or sidewalk
between lots 4 and 5. This would provide school children with easy
access to Ontario and would eliminate their need to "cut through"
lots. It seems to us this proposal will better serve the needs of the
neighborhood. We realize that the owners of lots 4 and 5 will be
responsible for snow removal on this sidewalk, but feel that would
be preferable to children walking through their lots on a daily basis.
The Spring Valley homeowners have expressed another concern about
the proposed east side sidewalk. Last summer we planted $700 of
trees and bushes along the east side of the entryway. Prior to this
we checked .with the developers and city as to whether or not an
east side sidewalk would be installed. It. was indicated to us there
were no such plans. We have spent a great deal of time and effort
planting and maintaining those new trees and bushes. We, the
residents of Spring Valley take pride in- what we have accomplished
in our development. We hope that you will take into consideration
our ideas concerning the location of the sidewalks in the Spring
Valley 8th Addition.
