HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure and suspension of parking enforcement for Worldly Goods Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle Market Event RESOLUTION NO. 16-421 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURE AND SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR WORLDLY GOODS REUSE, REPURPOSE,AND RECYCLE MARKET FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Worldly Goods is planning to host a Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle Market in Downtown Ames on Sunday, August 28, 2016; and, WHEREAS, the event is intended to bring attention to reusing, repurposing and swapping items people no longer use or need; and, WHEREAS,this is the first event of its kind,and Worldly Goods will be asking other groups if they would like to partner with the Market; and, WHEREAS, vendors will set up in spaces along the street, and consignment and antique stores in the Downtown will be invited to participate and be open during the event; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate the event, organizers have requested that the 200 and 300 blocks of Main Street be closed and that parking regulations on that portion of Main Street be suspended from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on August 28; and, WHEREAS, because the event is on a Sunday, no parking meter revenue will be lost; and, WHEREAS, organizers plan to go door-to-door with information for affected businesses prior to the event and will post signs along the affected blocks the evening of Saturday,August 27, so drivers are aware parking will not be available Sunday; and, WHEREAS,the Main Street Cultural District has provided a letter of support for the event; and, WHEREAS,this new event will help local businesses and residents buy,sell,and trade items that might otherwise be discarded. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of the 200 and 300 blocks of Main Street and suspension of parking enforcement in that area for the Worldly Goods Reuse,Repurpose, and Recycle Market event on August 28,2016, is hereby approved.
