RESOLUTION APPROVING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT FOR
2016/17 POWER PLANT FIRE RISK MITIGATION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,this contract allows staff at the Power Plant to engage an engineering firm with
fire protection expertise, or alternately afire protection firm, to act as the Owner's Engineer/
Designer/Representative for various fire risk mitigation studies, for the preparation of specific fire
system and installation design and specifications, and for fire system installation management,
inspection, and testing; and,
WHEREAS,the scope of work requires the engineering firm to:be the engineer for the areas
listed above; develop plans and specifications; provide detailed cost estimates; provide lists of
potential bidders; evaluate contractors; carry out contract management; and, perform field
installation administration as needed, required, and requested for each project; and,
WHEREAS,on December 18,2012,the Council awarded a contract to Burns&McDonnell
of Chesterfield, Missouri, for the Professional Services for Fire Risk Mitigation contract in an
amount not to exceed$50,000; and,
WHEREAS, included in the original contract were terms for up to four additional one-year
terms, and this is the fourth renewal out of four maximum; and,
WHEREAS,there is currently$584,258 remaining in the final budget amendments from the
FY 2015/16 budget cycle, and this funding will be carried over to the FY 2016/17 budget to cover
this contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the contract renewal with Burns & McDonnell for the Professional Services for Fire Risk
Mitigation for FY 2016/17 in an amount not to exceed $50,000 is hereby approved.
