RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR
GREEK EXCYTEMENT AND GREEK VISIT DAY EVENTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, from Friday, April 8, through Sunday, April 10, 2016, the ISU Greek
community will be holding activities related to its annual Greek Visit Day and Greek ExCYtement;
and,
WHEREAS, these activities are sponsored by the ISU Office of Greek Affairs; and,
WHEREAS,Friday night's events include a block parry on Ash Avenue with music and lawn
games for prospective fraternity and sorority members, and attendance is estimated at 200-500
participants Friday night; and,
WHEREAS,Saturday's events provide an opportunity during the day for prospective sorority
and fraternity students and their families to visit chapter houses,and Sunday includes a breakfast to
be served at Greek chapters and providing an outdoor gathering space on the Greek Triangle; and,
WHEREAS,to facilitate a safe and enjoyable event,the following street closures have been
requested:Ash Avenue from Gable Lane to Sunset Drive on Friday,April 8,from 6 p.m.to 10 p.m.;
Ash Avenue from Knapp Street to Sunset Drive, Sunset Drive from Ash Avenue to Gray Avenue,
and Pearson Avenue from Greeley Street to Sunset Drive, all on Saturday, April 9, from Noon to
5 p.m.; Sunset Drive from Ash Avenue to Gray Avenue and Pearson Avenue from Greeley Street
to Sunset Drive on Sunday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to Noon; and,
WHEREAS, parking would be prohibited on the affected streets during these times,
organizers have proposed mailing notices to residents affected by these closed areas; and,
WHEREAS, organizers are also requesting that parking regulations and enforcement be
suspended during those times that the streets are closed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the suspension of parking regulations and enforcement on the aforementioned streets during the
Greek Visit Day and Greek ExCYtement events on April 8 through April 10, 2016, is hereby
approved.
