RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING RETENTION OF OUTSIDE COUNSEL
TO ASSUME CITY PROSECUTIONS FOR THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Legal Department's Assistant City Attorney who handled prosecutions has
taken a position with the City of Des Moines; and,
WHEREAS, since the prosecution case load is a critical component of service the City
provides to the Ames community,it is very difficult for the remaining attorneys to absorb that work;
and,
WHEREAS, when a similar staffing shortage occurred a few years ago, a temporary
resolution was to hire outside counsel to do prosecutions for the City; and,
WHEREAS, an agreement has been reached for an attorney from the law firm of Coppola,
McConville, Hockenberg& Scalise of Des Moines, Iowa,to assume the prosecutions work for the
City of Ames; and,
WHEREAS,this attorney has experience with performing this same task for the City in the
past, and her assistance in providing this work again will allow the Legal Department to continue
doing prosecutions for the City while a search for a permanent replacement is implemented.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the retention of Megan Flynn,attorney from the law firm of Coppola,McConville,Hockenberg
& Scalise of Des Moines, Iowa, to provide prosecution services for the City of Ames' Legal
Department until a permanent Assistant City Attorney is hired, is hereby authorized and approved.
