HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Revisions to Ames Title VI Compliance Plan RESOLUTION NO. 16-007 RESOLUTION APPROVING REVISIONS TO THE AMES TITLE VI COMPLIANCE PLAN FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits agencies receiving federal funds from discriminating on the basis of race, color, and national origin; and, WHEREAS, since 1964, protections under federal law have been expanded, as have the compliance requirements for agencies receiving federal funds; and, WHEREAS,the City maintains a Title VI Compliance Plan and complaint procedure,which are designed to prevent and remediate discrimination; and, WHEREAS, because the City receives a substantial amount of federal funds through transportation projects, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) has been tasked with reviewing the City's compliance with Title VI requirements; and, WHEREAS,a compliance visit was held in December,and the IDOT has recommended that the City take two immediate actions to maintain compliance with its requirements; and, WHEREAS,these actions include adopting a Title VI Non-Discrimination Agreement with the IDOT and the IDOT Title VI Standard Assurances; and, WHEREAS, to accomplish these changes, references to the complaint and investigation procedure in the City's Title VI Plan must be amended. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City ofAmes,Iowa,that revisions to the City's Title VI Plan to reflect modifications in the complaint process are hereby approved.
