HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Funding source for City's share of sidewalk extension along Dotson Drive Extension RESOLUTION NO. 15-604 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING SOURCE FOR CITY'S SHARE OF SIDEWALK EXPANSION ALONG DOTSON DRIVE EXTENSION FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Ames Community School District and the City of Ames have approved a Memorandum of Understanding for cost sharing of a shared-use path expansion along Dotson Drive; and, WHEREAS, the shared-use path is located on the east side of Dotson Drive, and it will provide a better connection between the existing shared-use path immediately west of the Middle School and the College Creek/Cochrane Parkway trail; and, WHEREAS, the School District constructed the six-foot wide sidewalk as part of a public improvement project in 2015, and it has been determined that the pathway needs to be eight feet wide in that location; and, WHEREAS, it has further been determined that the School District shall construct the sidewalk expansion,and the City has agreed to reimburse the School District for 50%of the cost of the design and construction of the sidewalk; and, WHEREAS,the School District has estimated that the additional cost to widen the sidewalk will be approximately$45,000,however,it has not been confirmed by the City's Public Works staff, and, WHEREAS, it is staff s recommendation that if the City's share is $25,000 or less, funding should come from the Council's Contingency Fund; or, if the City's share is greater than$25,000, funding should be authorized from the Local Option Sales Tax Fund balance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that if the cost is $25,000 or less for the City's share of the sidewalk expansion along the Dotson Drive extension,the funding source is hereby authorized from the Council's Contingency Fund;or, if the City's share is greater than$25,000, the funding source is hereby authorized from the Local Option Sales Tax Fund balance.
