Re: Northridge Parkway Subdivision
Dear Mayor and Council Members:
The purpose of this letter is to bring you current and accurate
information on issues regarding removal and relocation of
existing trees within this subdivision. As you now know, several
trees have been removed by mistake in the southwest area of the
existing timber. This letter will try and define the extent of
damage and provide you with some background information.
In April the developers gave authorization to a tree moving
contractor to relocate selected trees for replanting in the
existing Northridge subdivision. That time of year is best suited
for successful transplanting, and the final road alignment
through the proposed subdivision would also be set by that time.
The contractor was instructed to proceed only after the trees and
approved road centerline were clearly marked, so that only trees
within the limits of the new roadway would be removed.
Without our knowledge, the contractor did begin removing and
relocating trees, using a preliminary set of survey stakes and
tree markings as his guide for removals . The contractor was
stopped almost immediately , and notice was made to Brian
O' Connell that a number of trees were inadvertently removed from
the site.
Please understand that we, as developers of the property, had no
intentions of removing trees unnecessarily. We have been very
sensitive to issues of preservation of the natural areas on this
property, and carefully planned to minimize the number of trees
impacted by construction. The trees in question are not within
the designated preservation area; however, the mistakes made will
obviously impact the character of the lots in that area.
