HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Suspension of parking enforcement for closed areas during "All Species, One Earth" event RESOLUTION NO. 15-140 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR ALL SPECIES, ONE EARTH EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Iowa Wildlife Center is planning to host an event on April 25, 2015, celebrating biodiversity and educating people about the interconnectedness of plants and animals; and, WHEREAS. this "All Species, One Earth"event is being organized in partnership with the Ames Public Library and the Parks and Recreation Department; and, WHEREAS,the event will incorporate music and educational activities in the vicinity of the Ames Public Library,as well as a parade starting at 1:00 p.m.on the streets outside the Library;and, WHEREAS, organizers anticipate approximately 500 attendees at the event; and, WHEREAS,to facilitate the parade portion of the event,organizers have requested that the following streets be temporarily closed on April 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Fifth and Sixth Streets from Burnett Avenue to Douglas Avenue,and Burnett and Kellogg Avenues from Fifth Street to Sixth Street, and City Parking Lot S; and, WHEREAS, Douglas Avenue will be closed from Fifth to Sixth Street from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and parking meters on each of these streets will be closed four hours in advance of the street closures to ensure that cars are not parked in the parade route; and, WHEREAS,the street closures will require closure of 123 metered parking spaces on streets and in City Lot S, and the loss of revenue to the Parking Fund is estimated to be $151.20; and, WHEREAS, organizers plan to go door-to-door with information for affected businesses prior to the event, and Main Street Cultural District has expressed support for this event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that suspension of parking enforcement for the closed areas for the All Species,One Earth event on April 25, 2015, is hereby approved, and that the requirement for reimbursement for the loss of revenue to the Parking Fund is hereby further approved.
