COUNCIL ACTION FORM
SUBJECT: ABANDONING WEST 3' OF A 20' SANITARY SEWER EASEMENT
ACROSS LOT 28 NORTHERN LIGHTS SUBDIVISION
BACKGROUND:
The planned unit development overlay approved for this lot allows a 28' wide structure
for Lot 28. Lot 28 is 46' wide and the east 20' is reserved for a sanitary sewer
easement. Since structures are not allowed to encroach into sewer easements, the
buildable width of this lot is 26'.
The developer has requested that the City abandon the west 3' of the easement to allow
the building to be constructed at the planned width rather than reducing the building
width by 2'.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Grant the request and abandon the west 3' of the sanitary sewer easement.
2. Reject the request and have the developer redesign his building.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council abandon the west 3'
of the 20' wide sanitary sewer easement across Lot 28 Northern Lights Subdivision
Ames, Story County, Iowa.
