RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR
THETA DELTA CHI HISTORIC REHABILITATION PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS,the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity, located at 217 Ash Avenue,was placed on the
National Record of Historic Places in February 2012, with the support from the Ames Historic
Preservation Commission and the Ames City Council; and,
WHEREAS,while there are numerous historical features ofthe fraternity house that are very
important, this facility, which was built in 1909, was the first house specifically built as a Greek
structure on Ash Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, during the past few years, alumni and undergraduate students have been
working in developing design plans for the rehabilitation of the facility to maintain the historical
character of the fraternity house, and are in the process of submitting a registration application for
the State of Iowa historic tax credits; and,
WHEREAS, as stated in the registration application,the applicant can receive credit when
documentation is submitted showing the local community's support; and,
WHEREAS,the Theta Delta Chi Historic Rehabilitation Project is a high priority initiative
for future development in the Ames community; and,
WHEREAS,both the City's Land Use Policy Plan and the Sub-Area Plan for the University-
Impacted Area support preservation and renovation of Greek houses in that neighborhood as the
policy of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that authorization for the Mayor to sign this resolution in support of the Theta Delta Chi Historic
Rehabilitation Project is hereby approved.
