HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for the Octagon's Art Festival RESOLUTION NO. 14-461 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR OCTAGON'S ART FESTIVAL FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the Octagon Center for the Arts plans to host the 44th Annual Art Festival in the Ames Main Street Cultural District(MSCD)on Sunday, September 28,2014, 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,booths selling art works, crafts, and food items will be in operation that day; in addition,there will be entertainment on the sidewalks in Tom Evans Plaza and in Cynthia Duff Plaza; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers are requesting the following street closures: Main Street,east of Clark(not blocking Wells Fargo Driveway)to just west of Duff Avenue(allowing traffic to access parking lot behind businesses); Douglas Avenue from 5th Street to Main Street; Kellogg Avenue from 5th Street to Main Street;and,Burnett Avenue south of the alley to Main Street; and, WHEREAS, notification signs will be placed on parking meters on Saturday evening after 6:00 p.m.,and since the event occurs on a Sunday,there is no potential loss of parking meter revenue; and, WHEREAS, Public Works will provide the necessary barricades for the street closures; and, WHEREAS,the Main Street Cultural District has been informed of the Art Festival and is in support of it; and, WHEREAS, additionally, Octagon staff has contacted affected businesses door-to-door, and signatures confirming the notification have been obtained from nearly all affected businesses; and, WHEREAS,approximately one third of the affected businesses will be open on the day of the event. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the aforementioned street closures for The Octagon Center for the Arts' Art Festival on September 28, 2014, is hereby approved.
