HomeMy WebLinkAboutA014 - Council Action Form dated September 13, 1988 ITEM #: DATE: 09/13/88 COUNCIL ACTION FORM SUBJECT: Resolution Granting Preliminary Approval to the Request to Purchase City Property by Ames Trenching and Story Construction. BACKGROUND: The owners of Ames Trenching and Excavating, plus Story Construction Company, have requested that the City sell approximately 3.2 acres from the City of Ames. (A copy of a location map plus a property map is attached for your review.) The property in question is located north of Lincoln Way on the east side of property currently owned by Story Construction, and immediately north of the Midwest Transportation property and Ames Trenching property. Both parties asking to purchase the City property would like to have additional area for equipment and material storage. The property in question is zoned G-I Floodplain and would be provided access to Lincoln Way by the respective properties currently owned by Ames Trenching and Story Construction. Prior to acting on the final conditions of the sale, an appraisal must be prepared, a property description must be developed, the purchasers must agree to constructing a fence along the east and north property line of the subject parcel along with Quit Claim Deeds and other documents for these transactions. At this point, the City Council is being asked to approve the concept of selling the property in question. ALTERNATIVES: 1. The City Council can grant preliminary approval to the request to sell property to Ames Trenching and Story Construction with the following stipulations: A. A property appraisal must be completed; B. A property description must be created; : 2 C. An Agreement must be developed to construct the perimeter fence; and D. After approval, a proposed contract for a negotiated price plus costs of appraisal will be prepared and submitted to the Council with a resolution to propose the transaction or sale terms and set the date of hearing. 2. The City Council can deny approval of the request to sell property to Ames Trenching and Story Construction. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt Alternative #1. This will grant preliminary approval to the request to sell property to Ames Trenching and Story Construction. This will also enable the background work such as appraisals and deed preparation to commence. eC - $r -o- pia--Q lto, 7/-.-7/ -PP 'T FIL'-D July 21, 1988 JUL 2 21988 CITY CLERIC OTY OF AME%IOWA Mayor F. Paul Goodland and City Council Members City of Ames 621 Main Street Ames, IA 50010 Dear Mayor and City Council Members: Ames Trenching & Excavating, Inc. and Story Construction Co. are interested in purchasing the parcel of land shown in yellow on the attached sheet which is approximately 340' x 412.5' (3.22 acres) from the City of Ames. A portion of this property is currently leased by Ames Trenching & Excavating, Inc. from the City. The property was acquired by the City from Ozzie Freel. It is not a part of the landfill. We intend to use the property for equipment and material storage. This would enable each of us to develop the adjoining properties we presently own. If you are interested in selling this property we would be willing to compensate the City a reasonable price and would have the property surveyed and platted at our expense. Thank you for your consideration. We await your decision. Sincerely, AMES TRENCHING & EXCAVATING, INC. -Z William Fedeler President STORY CONSTRUCTION CO. s Ric and T.
