RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR VALVE MAINTENANCE,
TESTING, REPAIR, REPLACEMENT,AND RELATED SERVICES AND
SUPPLIES FOR POWER PLANT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the City's Electric Utility has two coal-fired, high-pressure steam generation
units within the Power Plant, and these units require regular,professional maintenance and repair;
and,
WHEREAS, the repair on the valves on these generation units requires professional trade
crafts, such as boilermakers, steam/pipe fitters, and millwrights—to list a few; and,
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2009, the City Council awarded a contract to Ferguson Process
Services,of Cannon Falls,Minnesota,for valve maintenance services for the period of July 1,2009,
through June 30, 2010; and,
WHEREAS,this contract contained the option for the City to renew in one-year increments
for up to five additional years, and this if the fifth and final renewal year; and,
WHEREAS, Ferguson Process Services was acquired by Allied Valve,Inc., of Bettendorf,
Iowa, and for FY 2010/11, Allied Valve contacted City staff about this change in ownership and
agreed to renew this contract with the same terms,conditions,prices,and price increase percentages;
and,
WHEREAS,the FY 2014/15 operating budget for Electric Production includes$70,000 for
miscellaneous services to be performed under this contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the contract renewal with Allied Valve, Inc., of Bettendorf, Iowa, for Valve Maintenance,
Testing, Repair, Replacement, and Related Services and Supplies from July 1, 2014, through
June 30, 2015, in an amount not to exceed $70,000 is hereby approved.
