HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street and parking lot closures for Summerfest in Campustown RESOLUTION NO. 14-228 RESOLUTION APPROVING CAMPUSTOWN ACTION ASSOCIATION REQUESTS FOR SUMMERFEST IN CAMPUSTOWN FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Campustown Action Association (CAA) plans to hold Summerfest on June 14, 2014, and it successfully held the first Summerfest in 2011 and had successful events in 2012 2013; and, WHEREAS, the event involves activities for young people, live music, and a beer garden; and, WHEREAS, organizers plan to hold the Summerfest 5k fun run for the second year that will leave from Campustown,travel through the South Campus Area Neighborhood to Mortensen Road, head west on the shared-use path to the Middle School, and then return to Campustown for completion; and, WHEREAS, it is the organizers plan to close the 200 block of Welch Avenue (from Chamberlain Street to Hunt Street)from approximately 7 a.m.until 11 p.m., and parking meters will be covered and parking enforcement suspended on that portion of Welch during the hours of the event; and, WHEREAS, metered spaces in City Parking Welch Lot T and Chamberlain Lot Y will also close from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. to facilitate event activities; and, WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the following: closure of the 200 block of Welch Avenue between 7 a.m.until 11 p.m.;closure of Welch Lot T and Chamberlain Lot Y between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.; and, waiver of parking meter fees; and, WHEREAS, the Ames Chamber of Commerce is providing liability insurance coverage for this event, as the CAA is an affiliate organization of the Chamber. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED bythe City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the aforementioned requests from the organizers of Summerfest in Campustown on June 14, 2014, are hereby approved.
