RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS FOR
GREEK WEEK 2014
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, again this year, the Greek Week Central Committee and the Office of Greek
Affairs have requested that streets be closed periodically for activities as part of Greek Week; and,
WHEREAS,in addition,event organizers have requested that parking be prohibited on both
sides of Gray Avenue, Greeley Street,portions of Pearson Avenue,portions of Lynn Avenue, and
all of Sunset Drive from 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 29; and,
WHEREAS, several single-family homes are located along the closed streets, and the
organizers will notify the affected residents and the South Campus Area Neighborhood Association
about the closures by canvassing the area and distributing a notification letter; and,
WHEREAS,staff recommends that this request be approved with the following stipulations:
that no alcohol shall be served or consumed on streets or other public property during the event;that
organizers and participants will be responsible for picking up trash in the area during and at the
conclusion of the event;that organizers will reimburse the City for any lost or damaged barricades;
and, that food served and/or sold at private residences is the liability of the residence.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the suspension of parking regulations and enforcement for the aforementioned street closures
for the 2014 Greek Week activities on Friday through Saturday, March 28-29, 2014, is hereby
approved, subject to the listed stipulations.
