SUBJECT: Abandonment of parts of utility easements over Lot 23, Dwight
Harris Subdivision.
BACKGROUND:
The owner of Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivision, 404 Jeffrey Lane is
planning to build a garage. The garage would be located in utility
easements. The owner has requested that the easements widths be
reduced so that the Building Code can be met.
Staff has consulted with the utility companies who would use the easements
and found that some of the easements are necessary for maintaining their
lines. Although the easements are needed, the utility companies have
indicated that they can be made narrower.
The easements to be adjusted are as follows:
1. The east 10' of Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivision needs to be
reduced by 7' so that the east 3' of Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivi-
sion remains as a utility easement.
2. The north 5' of Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivision needs to be
reduced by 2' so that the north 3' of Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivi-
sion remains as a utility easement.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended by the City Manager that the City Council reduce the
widths of utility service easements over Lot 23, Dwight Harris Subdivision
in Ames, Story County, Iowa.
