HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Reallocation of funding for Sesquicentennial Display RESOLUTION NO. 14-035 RESOLUTION APPROVING REALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM FACES TO HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION SESQUICENTENNIAL DISPLAY FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Ames Human Relation Commission (HRC) is developing a display to celebrate the Ames Sesquicentennial and the 501h Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; and, WHEREAS, the HRC is researching local history to make an indoor, portable display that will showcase the history of civil rights in Ames, as well as provide national and state context to showcase persons from the community who have had an impact on advancing civil rights locally and nationally; and, WHEREAS, the display will be available to the community; and, WHEREAS, the display will debut at the Ames Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on January 30, 2014, and the dinner is the kick-off of the year-long sesquicentennial celebration; and, WHEREAS, the HRC estimates it will need a maximum of$1,500 to produce the display; originally, the HRC had $5,000 set aside for FACES; and, WHEREAS, the event was cancelled this year as the Commission has been refocusing its efforts to reach out to the community in more targeted ways; and, WHEREAS,this display will be part of those efforts to reach out to the community regarding civil rights and to inform the community about the Ames Human Relations Commission. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the reallocation of funds in the City Council's special allocations program from FACES to the Human Relations Commission's display program in an amount not to exceed $1,500 for the new display is hereby approved.
