HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Funding Agreement for 2013/14 Collector Program - Sheldon Avenue RESOLUTION NO. 13-463 RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDING AGREEMENT FOR 2013/14 COLLECTOR PROGRAM- SHELDON AVENUE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the City's annual Collector Street Pavement Improvements program utilizes current repair techniques to rehabilitate or reconstruct arterial streets with asphalt or concrete; and, WHEREAS, rehabilitation and/or replacement of collector streets are needed to restore structural integrity, serviceability, and ride-ability, and targeted streets are reaching a point of accelerated deterioration; and, WHEREAS, the 2013/14 program location is Sheldon Avenue (Lincoln Way — Hyland Avenue), and this project is programmed utilizing Metropolitan Planning Organization/Surface Transportation Program(MPO/STP) funding and General Obligation Bonds; and, WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the project will have a January 2014 letting,which will be through the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), with construction in 2014; and, WHEREAS, funding for this program has been identified in the 2013/14 Capital Improvements Plan(CIP)in the amount of$420,000 from General Obligation Bonds and$1,060,000 from STP funds through the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) for total program funding of$1,480,000; and, WHEREAS, approval of this agreement with the IDOT is needed to move the STP funding from the AAMPO to the City of Ames; and, WHEREAS,this must happen before the City can move forward with the reconstruction of Sheldon Avenue during the 2014 construction season,and delay or rejection of this agreement could delay the reconstruction by at least one year. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Iowa Department of Transportation Agreement for MPO/STP funding for the 2013/14 Collector Street Pavement Improvements - Sheldon Avenue is hereby approved.
