HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 2013 Bureau of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Agreement RESOLUTION NO. 13-462 RESOLUTION APPROVING AGREEMENT FOR 2013 BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, on June 25, 2013, the City Council authorized staff to apply for the 2013 Department of Justice,Office of Justice Programs,Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program; and, WHEREAS,the grant conditions required that the application be filed jointly with Story County, and the City Council approved entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with Story County; and, WHEREAS,in September,the Department of Justice notified the City that the grant had been awarded in full; and, WHEREAS,the grant award is for$23,686, and the Police Department proposes to use the funds for specialized training and equipment purchases to support crisis prevention and resolution programs; and, WHEREAS, grant funds will be used to purchase a laptop computer for the Department's mental health advocate to support the data and communications management functions that have become integral to that work; and, WHEREAS,equipment to support weapons storage and active shooter training will also be funded, and an additional Taser will be purchased; and, WHEREAS,the grant will also fund the purchase of a device that facilitates the forensic examination of electronic devices,and,finally,the grant will support sending one person to the 2013 Crisis Intervention Team Conference; and, WHEREAS, there is no match requirement with this grant. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Agreement for the 2013 Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program is hereby approved.
