HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Requests for Ames High Homecoming Parade RESOLUTION NO. 13-408 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMES HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING REQUESTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, Ames High School has requested to hold its Homecoming Parade on Monday, September 23, 2013; and, WHEREAS,parade entries will stage in Parking Lots MM and M and on Pearle Avenue and 5 Street; and, WHEREAS, the parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street and proceed east to Douglas Avenue, north on Douglas to 5 Street, and west on 5t"back to City Hall; and, WHEREAS, to help facilitate this event, the Homecoming Committee asks that the City Council approve the following closures:Pearle Avenue,Douglas Avenue and Clark Avenue(all from Main Street to 5"Street),and Main Street and 5"Street from Pearle Avenue to Douglas Avenue from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.; and, City Parking Lot MM and the south half of Lot M at 5:30 p.m. for parade staging; and, WHEREAS, parade organizers are also requesting a waiver of parking meter fees and enforcement along the parade route from 5:30 until 6:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, the Homecoming Committee asks permission to display fireworks after the football game on September 27 at the Ames High Stadium,and that a waiver of the Fireworks Permit fee in the amount of$25 be granted; and, WHEREAS, lastly, City staff is asking that the Council grant a waiver of parking meter fees and enforcement from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on September 23 in Parking Lot N (east of City Hall), as there are a number of heavily-attended classes in the Community Center on Monday evenings. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the following requests from the Ames High School Homecoming Committee for September 23,2013, are hereby approved: 1)closure(and partial closure)of the aforementioned streets and Parking Lots MM and M from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.;waiver of parking meter fees and enforcement along the parade route from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.; waiver of the Fireworks Permit fee; and,waiver of parking meter fees and enforcement for Parking Lot N from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. ADOPTED THIS 27th day of August, 2013. � A.
