HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for design of biosolids storage tank for Water Pollution Control RESOLUTION NO. 13-282 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR DESIGN OF BIOSOLIDS STORAGE TANK FOR THE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL FACILITY FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in April 2010, Howard R. Green Company completed a Biosolids Storage,Handling and Disposal Study for the Ames Water Pollution Control Facility(WPCF); and, WHEREAS,the study included the evaluation of the current and future biosolids storage needs,and it was concluded that additional biosolids storage capacity is currently needed to provide 365 days of biosolids storage and greater flexibility for land application of biosolids during years where weather conditions limit application periods; and, WHEREAS,the study concluded that an additional 1.6 million gallons of biosolids storage capacity is needed at the facility to accommodate current storage needs and to better position the facility to handle biosolids quantities resulting from future nutrient removal requirements; and, WHEREAS, on March 8,2013, a request for proposals (RFP) for engineering services was issued for the design of a new 1.6 million-gallon biosolids storage tank, and on April 12, 2013, the City received four proposals in response to the RFP; and, WHEREAS,after a thorough review of each firm's proposal,staff decided Veenstra&Kimm,Inc., of West Des Moines, Iowa, was the most qualified firm for the project; and, WHEREAS,after finalizing the scope of services with Veenstra&Kimm,its final proposed fee for completing the design,bid,and construction phase engineering services is$144,400,and the increase in the proposed fee includes the addition of necessary geotechnical work and special inspections required by the International Building Code; and, WHEREAS, the current project budget includes $228,000 for design,bid and, construction phase engineering services. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Professional Services Agreement with Veenstra& Kimm of West Des Moines, Iowa, in an amount not to exceed$144,400 for design,bid,and construction phase engineering services for the Water Pollution Control Facility Biosolids Storage Tank is hereby approved.
