HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Temporary street closures for ISU Homecoming RESOLUTION NO. 12-537 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR ISU HOMECOMING FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, on Friday, October 26, 2012,the Student Alumni Leadership Council at Iowa State University (ISU) is again planning "ExCYtement in the Streets" in connection with Homecoming Weekend at Iowa State; and, WHEREAS, the event is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. and continue until 10:00 p.m., with music and tours of the lawn displays built to celebrate Homecoming; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers are asking the Council to approve the following street closures: Sunset Drive, from Ash to just west of the intersection with Beach Avenue;Ash Avenue from Gable Lane to Knapp Street(Knapp and Gable will remain open); Gray Avenue from its intersection with Gable to Greeley Street; and, Pearson Avenue between Greeley Street and Sunset Drive; and, WHEREAS, streets will be closed by about 6:30 p.m. and will be reopened by 11:00 p.m., with prohibited on-street parking on the aforementioned streets from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on October 26; and, WHEREAS,Public Works will provide the barricades necessary for the street closures along with"no parking" signs; and, WHEREAS, organizers will be responsible for staffing the barricades as long as they are in place. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the above-mentioned street closures for Iowa State University Homecoming on October 26, 2012, are hereby approved.
