HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Requests for Octagon Art Festival RESOLUTION NO. 12-491 RESOLUTION APPROVING OCTAGON ART FESTIVAL REQUESTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the Octagon Center for the Arts plans to host its 42"d Annual Art Festival in the Ames Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) on Sunday, September 23, 2012; and, WHEREAS, this event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, booths selling art works, crafts, and food items will be in operation that day, and in addition,there will be entertainment on the sidewalks in Tom Evans Plaza and Cynthia Duff Plaza; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, the following street closures are being requested from 6:00 a.m.until 6:00 p.m.:Main Street east of Clark(not blocking Wells Fargo Driveway)to just west of Duff Avenue(allowing traffic to access the parking lot behind businesses);Douglas Avenue from 5`' Street to Main Street; Kellogg Avenue from 5`' Street to Main Street, and Burnett Avenue south of the alley to Main Street; and, WHEREAS,organizers are also requesting that the costs for electricity used during the event be waived, as well as a fee waiver for a Blanket Vending License; and, WHEREAS, insurance coverage for the event has been provided by The Octagon, and notification signs will be placed on parking meters on Saturday evening after 6:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,Public Works staff will provide the necessary barricades for the street closures, and the MSCD has been informed of the Art Festival and has extended its support. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned street closures and fee waivers for The Octagon Art Festival on September 23, 2012, are hereby approved.
