HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Delegation of staff to approve closure of 5th Street for water valve repair RESOLUTION NO. 12-334 RESOLUTION APPROVING DELEGATION TO CITY STAFF THE CLOSURE OF FIFTH STREET FOR REPAIR OF WATER VALVE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, with recent work in the Downtown area, the Public Works Department has found a valve in need of repair at the intersection of Fifth Street and Clark Avenue; and, WHEREAS, the repair of this water main will require the closure of Fifth Street west of Clark Avenue to allow crews the ability to complete the repair, and it is anticipated that the repair will take two days of closure to allow for the repair of the water valve and to replace the street;and, WHEREAS, the Municipal Code requires City Council to approve temporary closures of those streets that are classified as Arterials, or are active Cyride routes,which is the case with Fifth Street; and, WHEREAS, with the large amount of special events in the Downtown area, it will be important for staff to coordinate with those activities, therefore, it is recommended that the City Council delegate to staff the ability to administratively close Fifth Street west of Clark Avenue;and, WHEREAS, staff will coordinate the placement of all appropriate,temporary traffic control measures,and will also work with the City's Public Relations Officer to notify the public throughout the duration of the project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the delegation to City staff the ability to administratively approve the closure of Fifth Street west of Clark Avenue for a water valve repair is hereby approved.
