HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract renewal for Power Plant Ash Hauling Services RESOLUTION NO. 12-296 RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL OF CONTRACT FOR POWER PLANT ASH HAULING SERVICES FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,this contract is for the coal combustion by-product beneficial re-use or disposal from the City of Ames ash pond to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources- (IDNR) approved and permitted beneficial re-use site or landfill disposal site; and, WHEREAS, bottom ash comes from the Power Plant coal-fired boilers and it is hydraulically transported to the ash pond east of the Power Plant; and, WHEREAS,the ash itself is composed of inorganic materials in the coal and in the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)that does not burn and must be removed from the boilers to allow continual operation; and, WHEREAS,this ash must be periodically removed from the ash pond via excavating or dredging, and it is then transported off site for disposal; and, WHEREAS, on September 14, 2010, the Council awarded a contract to Biosolids Management Group, Inc., of Boone, Iowa, (BMG, Inc.) in the amount not to exceed $1,160,000 for beneficial use and disposal; and, WHEREAS, included in the original proposal were terms for four optional twelve-month renewal periods; and, WHEREAS,the FY 2012/13 operating budget includes$1,000,000 for ash hauling; and, WHEREAS, it should be noted that there is not increase in either the hauling rates or the fuel escalator for fiscal year 2012/13. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the contract renewal with Biosolids Management Group, Inc., of Boone, Iowa for removal and hauling of ash from July 1,2012,through June 30,2013, in an amount not to exceed$1,000,000 is hereby approved.
