RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL OF CONTRACT FOR
POWER PLANT SPECIALIZED CLEANING SERVICES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this contract is for the emergency and scheduled repairs of the Unit No. 7 and
Unit No. 8 coal-fired boilers for the Electric Services Department; and,
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2009,the Council awarded a contract to W-S Industrial Services,
Inc.,of Council Bluffs,Iowa,for the specialized cleaning services to be furnished as requested from
July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010, in an amount not to exceed $231,000; and,
WHEREAS,this contract has the option for the City to renew in one-year increments for up
to five additional years, and Electric Services staff is recommending renewal of the agreement for
2012/13; and,
WHEREAS,the hourly rates which will be charged by W-S Industrial will be unchanged for
next year,and the 2012/13 operating budget for Electric Production has $156,000 to cover the cost
of this contract; and,
WHEREAS, this is the third year out of the five-year optional renewal periods.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the contract renewal with W-S Industrial Services, Inc., of Council Bluffs, Iowa, for the
specialized cleaning services contract, including grit blasting, hydro blasting, detonation blasting,
and vac truck services,for the one-year period of July 1,2012,through June 30,2013,in an amount
not to exceed $156,000, at hourly prices unchanged from the current contract, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 12th day of June, 2012.
