Home My WebLink About~Master - Change of Public Art Commission Member's Term to One-Year Appointment RESOLUTION NO. 12-287 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE IN PUBLIC ART COMMISSION MEMBER'S APPOINTMENT TO ONE-YEAR TERM FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the Public Art Commission(PAC)is by far the largest City board/commission, with a membership of 16, and it has organized itself into a number of functional work committees to carry out its work; and, WHEREAS, presently, only 14 of the Commission's positions are filled; and, WHEREAS,over the past two years,the Mayor has had a continual challenge identifying and appointing the last one or two members of this Commission; and, WHEREAS,it has been determined that down-sizing the PAC to 14 would not substantially reduce the Commission's capacity to carry out its work; and, WHEREAS, one of the two positions currently vacant is the "one year" appointment originally intended to be filled by an ISU student, and in order to preserve that appointment opportunity for future years,one of the existing three-year appointees could be shifted into the open one-year opening; and, WHEREAS, Steve Kawaler is currently filling the third year of his second three-year term, and is ineligible for further reappointment; and, WHEREAS, if his appointment is shifted to the one-year position, the PAC's membership can be reduced to 14 at this time without any current member losing his or her position; and, WHEREAS, Steve Kawaler has expressed support for this change in his PAC appointment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the change of Steve Kawaler's appointment from a three-year term to a one-year term that will expire on April 1, 2013, is hereby approved.
