RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
AMERICAN LEGION PARADE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, Post#37 of the American Legion plans to host a parade on July 14, 2012, as a
part of the American Legion of Iowa Department Convention in Ames, July 12-15; and,
WHEREAS,the parade will begin at 6:00 p.m.with participants and parade vehicles staging
in CBD Lot X and on Main Street; and,
WHEREAS,the parade will begin at the corner of Main Street and Clark Avenue, go north
on Clark, east on 5`' Street, south on Douglas Avenue, and west on Main Street; and,
WHEREAS, Midnight Madness is historically held on the same date and on portions of the
same route, but American Legion representatives and Midnight Madness organizers have been in
contact to coordinate their efforts, and it is intended that once the parade route has been completed,
barricades on the west end of the route will be transferred from American Legion volunteers to
Midnight Madness volunteers; and,
WHEREAS,in order to facilitate the movement of participants,temporary street closures are
needed on July 14 as follows:Main Street between the entrance to Depot Lot V and Kellogg Avenue
(5 p.m. to about 7 p.m.); Main Street between Kellogg Avenue and Douglas Avenue (5 p.m. to
approximately Midnight); 5`'Street between Clark Avenue and Douglas Avenue(5 p.m.to 7 p.m.);
Clark Avenue between the south entrance to CBD Lot X and 5tn Street (5 p.m. to about 7 p.m.);
Burnett,Kellogg,and Douglas Avenues between Main Street and 51'Street(5 p.m.to approximately
7 p.m.); and,
WHEREAS, the parade route roads not needed for Midnight Madness will reopen as soon
as the last parade participants are safely through.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the above-mentioned street closures for the American Legion Parade on July 14, 2012, are
hereby approved.
