RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL OF CONTRACT FOR
HAULING AND RELATED SERVICES TO BOONE COUNTY LANDFILL
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,on May 26,2009,the City Council awarded a contract to Waste Management of
Ames for hauling and related services for the Resource Recovery Plant during the 2010 fiscal year;and,
WHEREAS,this bid had four optional extension periods through June 30,2014,and the period
from July 1, 2012,through June 30, 2013,will be the third of four optional extension periods; and,
WHEREAS, extension periods are contingent upon approval of funding by the City Council;
and,
WHEREAS,this contract includes furnishing container services and hauling materials from the
Resource Recovery Plant to the Boone County Landfill, and materials hauled under the contract are
those than can not be processed into fuel by the Resource Recovery Plant; and,
WHEREAS, the base bid price of$.3333 per mile per ton is adjustable for each extension
period based on 12% of the bid amount based on fuel costs, and on the diesel fuel price index as
determined by the Iowa Department of Transportation on the March 1 preceding the renewal; and,
WHEREAS,the original base bid price of$.3333 per mile per ton translated to$12.00 per ton
for a round trip to the Boone County Landfill, and under the contract adjustment clause,the contract
price will increase to $.3967 per mile per ton for FY 2012/13, increasing the cost for a round trip to
$14.28 per ton; and,
WHEREAS,the budgeted amount of$199,125 is based on hauling approximately 13,944 tons.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the contract renewal option for FY 2012/13 for hauling and related services for the Resource Recovery
Plant with Waste Management of Ames in the amount of$.3967 per mile per ton is hereby approved.
