HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Suspension of parking regulations for Greek Week 2012 RESOLUTION NO. 12-083 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS FOR 2012 GREEK WEEK FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Greek Week Central Committee has requested that streets be closed for activities in observance of Greek Week; and, WHEREAS, the closures would be around the "Delta Triangle" and include Sunset Drive from just west of Beach to Ash Avenue; Ash Avenue from Gable Lane to Knapp Street; Gray Avenue from Gable Lane to Greeley Street;Greeley Street,Pearson Avenue from Sunset to Greeley Street; and, Lynn Avenue from Chamberlain Street to Knapp Street; and, WHEREAS, Lynn Avenue would be closed only on Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. to facilitate the Greek Olympics activities; and, WHEREAS, all of the other street closures will be from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31; and, WHEREAS,in addition,event organizers have requested that parking be prohibited on both sides of Gray Avenue, Greeley Street,portions of Pearson Avenue,portions of Lynn Avenue, and all of Sunset Drive from 7:00 p.m.on Thursday,March 29,to 7:00 p.m.on Saturday,March 31;and, WHEREAS, several single-family homes are located along the closed streets, and the organizers will notify the affected residents and the South Campus Area Neighborhood Association about the closures; and, WHEREAS,staff is recommending the street closure request with the following stipulations: no alcohol shall be served or consumed on streets or other public property during the event; Greek Week organizers or participating organizations will be responsible for picking up trash in the area during and at the conclusion of the event;organizers will reimburse the City for any ruined or stolen City-owned barricades; a Temporary Obstruction Permit shall be obtained for placement of tables, trash cans,tents,or other items on public property;and,food served and/or sold at private residences becomes the liability of the residence; and, WHEREAS,Public Works staffwill drop offthe appropriate barricades and no parking signs on Wednesday,March 28,at the Farm House Fraternity,311 Ash Avenue,where they will be stored until needed and put in place by event organizers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request to suspend parking regulations on the aforementioned streets for the 2012 Greek Week activities is hereby approved, subject to aforementioned stipulations.
