HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Smart Energy Rebate payment to Bethesda Lutheran Church RESOLUTION NO. 12-067 RESOLUTION APPROVING REBATE PAYMENT TO BETHESDA LUTHERAN CHURCH FOR INSTALLATION OF GEOTHERMAL HEATING AND COOLING FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the City's Smart Energy incentive programs are designed to encourage customers to purchase and install energy efficient equipment; and, WHEREAS, this program helps Electric Services reduce our overall power load and particularly helps reduce our peaks; and, WHEREAS, Bethesda Lutheran Church recently participated in the Smart Energy program after making upgrades to its heating and cooling systems; and, WHEREAS, Bethesda Lutheran Church, located at 1517 Northwestern Avenue, installed a geothermal heating and cooling system rather than a standard heating and cooling system, and it is estimated that the geothermal system will save 120,000 kWh of energy per year and reduce demand by 62 KW; and, WHEREAS, this will save the customer approximately $12,480 annually, and estimated future avoided costs (savings) for the City of Ames Electric Services is $85,000; and, WHEREAS,the new geothermal system will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 82 tons annually; and, WHEREAS, this installation qualifies Bethesda Lutheran for a Smart Energy rebate of $70,560. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the rebate payment of$70,560 to Bethesda Lutheran Church for its installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system is hereby approved.
