HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Withdrawal from portions of Iowa Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant RESOLUTION NO. 11-537 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING WITHDRAWAL OF IOWA ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION BLOCK GRANTS FOR ICE ARENA, CITY HALL GYMNASIUM,AND FIRE STATION NO. 3 FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in February 2009,the City of Ames applied for and received$63,000 in grant funding from what is now known as the Iowa Economic Development Authority Energy Division (IEDAED)for installation of LED traffic signals,a pilot LED streetlight project,a pilot LED parking lot lighting project, and energy efficiency improvements to the Animal Control Facility; and, WHEREAS, this grant funding was matched dollar-for-dollar with City funds, and by summer 2011,the traffic signal, streetlight, and parking lot lighting projects had been completed at a total cost of$74,368.54, with $37,184.28 coming from City funds and $37,184.26 from grant funds; and, WHEREAS, in June 2010, after receiving a higher-than-anticipated bid for the Animal Shelter work,the City Council authorized staff to request approval for the unspent grant funds from the three lighting projects and the grant funds originally allocated to the Animal Shelter to be re- purposed toward other energy efficiency projects; and, WHEREAS, staff worked with the grantor to identify lighting projects in the Parks Maintenance Building, Parks Office Building, Ice Arena, City Hall Gym, and mechanical system upgrades in Fire Station No. 3; and, WHEREAS,the final date for completion of these projects was revised in our grant contract to be March 31, 2012; and, WHEREAS,after working with staff in the affected departments,it has been determined that three of these projects can not be completed under the grant; and, WHEREAS, if authorized by Council, staff would request that three of these projects (Ice Arena Lighting Project, Fire Station No. 3 Mechanical Project, and the City Hall Gym Lighting Project)be removed from the City's grant contract; and, WHEREAS, as part of the Cool Cities CIP project for City facility energy efficiency improvements, staff still plans to complete the three aforementioned projects. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that authorization for staff to request that the Iowa Economic Development Authority Energy Division release the City of Ames from completing the Ice Arena, City Hall Gymnasium, and Fire Station No. 3 projects through this grant program is hereby approved.
