RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
AMES INTERMODAL FACILITY TIGER GRANT APPLICATION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, three project partners, the City of Ames, CyRide and Iowa State University
propose to construct an Intermodal Transportation Facility in Ames at a total project cost of
approximately$12,506,250; and,
WHEREAS, this facility would accommodate and link public and private transportation
modes (public transit, intercity carriers, airport shuttle services, car pools/van pools, taxis, bike
commuters, and pedestrians) with the needed parking that would also stimulate redevelopment
and long-term revitalization in the community; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed center will also provide parking for the University and
Campustown; and,
WHEREAS, additional landscaping of College Creek and improved pedestrian access
along the east side of Sheldon Avenue between Lincoln Way and Knapp Street would occur;
and,
WHEREAS, a total local match of $174,125 by the City would be required with
$102,000 from CyRide for bus match, another $50,000 from CyRide for grant administration,
and $22,125 from the City's 2012/13 budget, if approved for TIGER discretionary funding; and,
WHEREAS, federal dollars are being requested through the Transportation Investment
Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Program, and staff is recommending that the City
Council support this grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the support of the Ames Intermodal Transportation Facility, Phase II, for the TIGER
discretionary grant application is hereby approved.
