HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Purchase of five CyRide buses RESOLUTION NO. 11-419 RESOLUTION APPROVING PURCHASE OF FIVE BUSES FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in 2010, CyRide was awarded a federal State of Good Repair (SGR), national discretionary grant for the purchase of 10 buses; and, WHEREAS,CyRide received 90%federal funding for these buses,requiring a 10%local match to be secured from CyRide's capital budget; and, WHEREAS, through discussions with the Transit Agency Board of Trustees, it was decided to divide the procurement of these buses into two orders,in two different budget years,to minimize the impact on the budget; and, WHEREAS,the Transit Board and the City Council approved the first purchase of buses under this grant in December 2010,and now with the start of the new budget year, CyRide is in the position to complete purchase of the five remaining buses under this grant; and, WHEREAS,all five buses can be purchased under a national bus procurement administered by the Akron, Ohio,transit system, with Cyride named as participant; and, WHEREAS, the total price of the buses includes federal funding of$1,764,000, with a local match of$196,000; and, WHEREAS,the contract is awarded to Gillig Corporation ofHayward,California,in an amount not to exceed$1,960,000; and, WHEREAS,the Transit Agency Board of Trustees will consider approval of this purchase at its August 25, 2011, meeting, so the purchase of these five buses will be contingent upon the concurrence of the Transit Board. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the contract with Gillig Corporation of Hayward, California, in an amount not to exceed $1,960,000 for purchase of five 40-foot buses is hereby approved, contingent upon the approval of the Ames Transit Agency Board of Trustees.
