RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURE AND METERED PARKING SPACES
FOR"WELCOME TO AMES"
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in conjunction with the Council's priority of"connecting our community,"staff
has again explored ways to improve upon last year's "Welcome to Ames" event for incoming and
returning ISU students; and,
WHEREAS, for some students, it will be the first time that they are away from home, and
we want to make them feel like Ames is their new home; for returning students, it is important to
reinforce that Ames is their new home as well; and,
WHEREAS, staff is proposing that this event be planned to occur on August 26 from 5 p.m.
to 7 p.m.,with the location being near Fire Station No. 2 in Campustown; and,
WHEREAS,planned activities to help attract passers by include:free pizza and Ames water;
a sound system for a DJ playing music; activities planned by the Parks and Recreation Department
staff;promotional items from City departments will be given away;the electric Zenn car will be on
display along with Segways; and, drawings and prizes; and,
WHEREAS,in order to facilitate this event,it will be necessary to close Chamberlain Street
and its metered parking spaces between Welch and Stanton Avenues from Noon to 8 p.m.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the closure of Chamberlain Street between Welch and Stanton Avenues,along with its metered
parking spaces, on August 26, 2011, from Noon to 8 p.m. is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24tt' day of August, 2010.
