HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for All-American Weekend RESOLUTION NO. 11-383 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR ALL-AMERICAN WEEKEND FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau, along with the Iowa Street Rod Association and Main Street Cultural District(MSCD),plan to host the 10t1i Annual All-American Weekend (AAW) during Labor Day weekend this year; and, WHEREAS,Downtown activities will begin on Saturday,September 3,and will run through Sunday, September 4, 2011; and, WHEREAS, the weekend will feature a barbeque competition, and the Iowa Street Rod Association Car Show, and a concert sponsored by Olde Main Brewing Company; and, WHEREAS, event organizers are requesting the following to help facilitate these AAW activities: 1) closure of 5tn Street, from Clark Avenue to Douglas Avenue; Burnett Avenue, from Main Street to 61h Street; and City Parking Lot N (east of City Hall), from 6:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3,to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4 (for barbeque competition); 2) closure of Main Street,from Clark Avenue to Kellogg Avenue,from 6:00 a.m.to 11:00 p.m.,on Saturday,September 3 (for Farmers' Market,car show,and concert); 3) closure of Main Street,from Kellogg Avenue to the CBD drive aisle; Kellogg Avenue, from the CBD Lot to the alley between Main Street and 5tn Street; and, Douglas Avenue, from Main Street to the alley, on Saturday, September 3, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, event organizers and the MSCD have notified businesses in the area that will be affected by the closures, and feedback has been very positive; and, WHEREAS,volunteers will be stationed at barricades to ensure that vehicles can get into and out of the one-way lanes through Noon on Saturday. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned street closures and Parking Lot N closure for the All-American Weekend activities are hereby approved.
