RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO DOWNTOWN URBAN
REVITALIZATION PLAN
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, on April 12, 2011, the City Council established Downtown Service Center
zoning for most properties on Kellogg Avenue south of the Union Pacific Railroad and made this
area eligible for the Downtown Facade Grant Program; and,
WHEREAS, at that time, the Council also directed staff to change the boundary of the
Downtown Urban Revitalization Area to maintain consistency with the Downtown Facade Grant
Program and set the public hearing date; and,
WHEREAS, this is the final step in reenforcing Kellogg Avenue as one of the main entries
into the Downtown, and by this action, these properties will be eligible for partial property tax
abatement for the value of any qualifying improvements at the rate of 100% of the improvement
value for a period of three years; and,
WHEREAS,the Downtown Design Guidelines still apply as part ofthe criteria for eligibility,
and the scoring system the Council has adopted to assist in awarding facade grants will not apply to
tax abatement; and,
WHEREAS, projects not awarded a grant may still be eligible for tax abatement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the amendment to the Downtown Urban Revitalization Plan is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 141h day of June, 2011.
