RESOLUTION APPROVING LOCAL MATCH FOR
FEMA HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT PROGRAM FOR
LINCOLN WAY FRATERNITIES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, Public Works has submitted 10 projects for consideration under FEMA's
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP); and,
WHEREAS,Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division(HSEMD)has
now completed its preliminary eligibility review of the Notices of Interest (NOI) and the proposed
projects described in the NOIs have been determined to meet the preliminary eligibility requirements
established through the State HMGP Administrative Plan and the State Hazard Mitigation Plan;and,
WHEREAS,the City was then invited to complete and submit an HMGP proj ect application
for each proposed project; and,
WHEREAS, successfully completing and submitting an application does not guarantee that
the proposed projects will be eligible or funded; rather, it is the next step in the HMGP funding
process; and,
WHEREAS, the Lincoln Way Fraternities Pi Kappa Alpha Union (PIKE) and Phi Kappa
Theta(PKT)are located lower than the surrounding area and have experienced repeated flooding of
the lower levels; and,
WHEREAS,this proj ect would include obtaining an easement and installation of storm sewer
to intercept storm sewer run-off that flows through its sites; and,
WHEREAS, if approved for funding, the cost-share basis will be an amount not to exceed
75% from federal funds, an amount not to exceed 10% from state funds, with the remaining
minimum of 15% coming from local funds; and,
WHEREAS, this local match funding has been included in the City's 2011/12 Low Point
Drainage Improvements Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program application for the Lincoln Way Fraternities Projects with
local match funding being a minimum of 15% is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24cn day of May, 2011.
